The Virtual Practitioner roundtable discussion on Practitioner Guides on Protecting Victims of Trafficking in Persons

The Regional Support Office of the Bali Process (RSO), together with NEXUS Institute, convened a virtual practitioner roundtable discussion with 19 expert practitioners from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam on 20 April 2021, from 10.00 am. -12.00 noon (Bangkok time).

The purpose of the roundtable discussion was to seek inputs from expert practitioners on the Practitioner Guide Series that addresses victim identification, victim protection and support, recovery and reintegration and special measures for trafficked children towards their finalization.

The Practitioner Guides Series on Victim Protection is being jointly prepared by the NEXUS Institute and the Bali Process Regional Support Office (RSO) to support practitioners involved in the protection of trafficking victims in Bali Process member states, with a particular focus on the ASEAN region. The guides align with the ASEAN Convention against Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children and the ACWC Regional Guidelines and Procedures to Address the Needs of Victims of Trafficking in Persons. As a series, the Practitioner Guides offer a comprehensive and holistic overview of key issues and challenges in protecting adult and child trafficking victims towards improving victim identification and protection practice.

By bringing together expert practitioners from the six Member States to the roundtable discussion, the RSO and NEXUS Institute sought inputs to validate the guidance points offered in the first four Practitioner Guides and advice on their implementation in practice. These products will be made publicly available to support and complement regional and national capacity-building and other counter-trafficking initiatives.

The RSO would like to express its sincere thanks to expert practitioners who joined the roundtable today and colleagues from the NEXUS Institute for their partnership and for bringing their practical expertise to bear in elaborating these guides.
