RSO-UNHCR Bureau for Asia and the Pacific: A kick-off of the first regional training on the use of the screening and referral toolkit mobile application

In partnership with UNHCR Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, RSO kicks off the first of a series of regional workshops on the use of the Screening and Referral Toolkit Mobile Application (the toolkit) with 30 officials from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines today.

The workshop discusses different scenarios and international legal principles in identifying, protecting, and assisting individuals with different vulnerabilities at an international border.

The Screening and Referral Toolkit Mobile Application (the toolkit) covers four modules that can detect individuals with specific vulnerabilities and protection needs for referral and assistance.  The four modules include tips for communication, visual questionaries, screening checklist, and referral pathways for individuals with different vulnerable profiles for assistance. Examples of vulnerable profiles that the toolkit can detect include but are not limited to individuals who need international protection, assistance for the return home, potential trafficking victims, unaccompanied children, and have specific health conditions.

The Screening and Referral Toolkit Mobile Application was developed in partnership with the UNHCR Bureau for Asia and Pacific and close consultations with national experts from Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia. RSO extends thanks to the Government of Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines for their continuous support, which provides an opportunity to develop the toolkit through the exchange of experience and practices between experts and practitioners in the region.
