Training workshop on monitoring and evaluating migration-related information campaigns

The Regional Support Office of the Bali Process (RSO) delivered a Training Workshop on Monitoring and Evaluating Migration-related Information Campaigns over two days on March 20-21, 2018, in Bangkok, Thailand. This is the first time this training has been conducted since its development by the RSO in a project funded by the New Zealand Government to complement the Bali Process Handbook on Addressing Irregular Migration through Effective Information Campaigns.

Information campaigns play a significant role in raising awareness in Bali Process Member States of safe migration and in informing vulnerable individuals and communities of the risks and dangers of people smuggling and trafficking in persons. With the growing use of information campaigns for prevention comes an immediate need to establish monitoring and evaluation processes to capture information campaigns’ impact and effectiveness.

Responding to this need, the Training Workshop on Monitoring and Evaluating Migration-related Information Campaigns delivers an appreciation and common model for monitoring and evaluation of information campaigns based on global standards and methodologies. The training covered a step-by-step roadmap for designing and implementing strategic and evidence-based information campaigns to prevent trafficking in persons, people smuggling and other migration-related issues.

Twelve delegates from 11 Bali Process Member States participated in this interactive, hands-on training workshop. Subject matter experts from the International Labour Organization, International Organization for Migration and Rapid Asia shared their expertise and experience in information campaigns and monitoring and evaluation. The delegates welcomed the opportunity to learn about the key elements of an effective information campaign and the tools to monitor and evaluate a campaign. The delegates recognised the importance and value of following a strategic process when designing a campaign, including the establishment of monitoring and evaluation activities and sharing lessons learned from other Bali Process Members and Organizations to deliver an effective information campaign.
