RSO-UNHCR Bureau for Asia and the Pacific Joint Virtual Training on the Screening and Referral Toolkit Mobile Application

Fourth in a series, and the second national-level training on the Screening and Referral Toolkit Mobile Application with 75 participants from Thailand is taking place virtually on 22-24 November 2021.

RSO and UNHCR Bureau for Asia and Pacific have been jointly organizing a series of regional and national level training on the screening and referral toolkit mobile application (the toolkit) designed in close consultations with national experts from Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, and Indonesia.

The screening and referral toolkit includes four modules: tips for communication, visual questionaries, screening checklist, and referral pathways, and can detect individuals with different vulnerable profiles, especially at an international border, for referral of protection and assistance.

The first and second regional trainings were held on (11-13 October 2021) and (25-27 October 2021), respectively, with 63 participants from Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, and Indonesia, including port and border officials. Three trainings at the national level are planned for Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia – in order. A national training with 42 officials from Indonesia was begun on 8 November and concluded on 10 November.

RSO-UNHCR screening and referral toolkit marks the use of technology in Asia and the Pacific region to assist border officials in identifying and protecting people with different vulnerabilities. RSO extends its appreciation to the Bali Process member states: Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines; those provide an opportunity to develop the toolkit through exchanging experience between experts and practitioners.
